He explains that he doesn't have the power to let her go, but he can help her: they can stage an execution and at the last minute he will fake a machine failure, so the execution will be rescheduled to another day and in the meantime she could probably get a better lawyer and hopefully get out of the situation. On his knees, he really explains he really wants to help her but that's the best he can do. This all sounds reasonable, so she calms down and they begin staging the execution: she lets him put her onto the guillotine and strap her. He closes the lunette around her neck and moves closer to the release handle. That's when he's supposed to fake a technical failure, and he keeps reassuring her. She doesn't have the time to even notice that the blade has dropped, and in an instant her head gets cut off and rolls into the basket. The body squirms, headless, and one leg falls off the plank.
